About

Established in 1939 by Chicago's beloved "Poet Laureate" Franklin Lee Stevenson, The Poet's Study specializes in printing prayer cards, memorial folders & acknowledgment cards to funeral homes & families. Established after The Great Depression by POET Franklin Lee Stevenson (1889-1952). He brought comfort to families through his poems and prayers that he wrote and decided to set up shop in Chicago. Franklin Lee Stevenson, who, when down on his luck in 1924, hit upon an inspiration and a career as the "undertakers' poet laureate," at a starting fee of $1 a stanza. His idea blossomed into a service called The Poet's Study, which circulated Stevenson's catalogs to more than 200 mortuaries, which in turn passed canned condolences to mourners.
